I have a Socket 423 Mobo with the 423 to 478 CPU convertor. My question is, the mother board is only a 266 FSB while the CPU I want to put in is a 400 MGZ 1.8 Celeron. I know the mobo can handle the 1.8 chip, I just don't know if there are any problems with running it at 266 MGZ?
Thanks in advance,
Chris

Don't waste your time or money.
Get a new mobo that works with the 400 MHz processor and sell the old mobo and converter.

If it walks like a duck....... with the current cost of motherboards in 478 format, why bother. You can avoid problems and facilitate upgrades by buying a current board.

I hear you guys, but I didn't ask for monetary advice. I can get the CPU for nada if it works. Can someone simply answer my question?
I mean, seriously, did you think I'd intentionally BUY an intel :D

Something doesn't make sense here. All P4 S423 boards have 400 fsb ONLY. You said yours was 266 fsb. That's not possible.
Your board is 400 fsb. You just didn't know that.
The Celeron 1.8 is 400 fsb so it should work.
But the hard part is getting your board's BIOS to recognize the Celeron's microcode. That's because S423 boards were not meant to work with S478 Celerons/P4s.
You might have to upgrade the BIOS if that is even an option.
Good luck.

Yes, you're apparently confusing AMD's FSB of 266MHz with Intel (which is 400, 533 or 800MHz for the P4). Since the slowest FSB for socket 423 or 478 was 400MHz, you've no doubt got that covered. However, there still might be an issue with a Celeron. It's unlikely that there will be a BIOS revision for Celeron support for a socket 423 m/b, since the P4 based Celeron is socket 478 only.

It's flaky. celeron 1.8 is a POS CPU anyway.

I had a old board also with the 423 socket and i was thrilled to learn about this adapter, that is until I found out that the Motherboard would only accept a CPU up to 2.0GHZ. Also the cost of the new processor was about double the cost of gewtting a larger CPU on a standard 478 board.
I agree about getting a new MOBO ( they are pretty Cheap ) that goes with your processor straight up.
This way the board you choose won't limit you in case ..down the road an even bigger processor is in order.
