now if only they would fix the general overall crappy video performance malaise of this port, they will be onto something.

Man, I can't wait for this patch. I've been trying to get in a decent game of CTF all day today - lag *everywhere*. I can't believe this product was allowed to actually hit the streets... pathetic. At the moment, I take back anything good I said about Halo multiplayer.
If anyone here is thinking about buying I *strongly* suggest waiting for some feedback on the v1.03 patch.

Anway, just had to vent. Hoping v1.03 will actually improve networked gameplay performance - otherwise, it's uninstall time. So disappointing... i'm going to go contemplate buying an X-Box. :)

I certainly hope so but i'm not holding my breath... I reciently replaced my Ti4400 with a 9800 Pro expecting to see decent performance from halo.... NOT. Even runs like *** with a 9800 Pro backed with a 2500+@3200+ cpu! Very bad considering Max Payne 2 not only has better graphcs (in my opinion) but I get WELL over 60 fps, and thats at a higher resolution than I play HALO with, in addition to using 4x AA+AF, both of which I have turned off in HALO.

AA will only decrease performance in Halo - turn it off. You shouldn't notice any drop in visual quality - I didn't.

I'm confused about Halo's performance (network issues aside). While I don't have any numbers on FPS I haven't noticed a single performance issue or slowdown and i'm running at 1280x1024 with all video/audio settings maxed (or at least near max) on this system running at stock speeds:

Athlon 1.0Ghz
512MB PC133
ASUS A7V133-C
2xMaxtor 80GB 7200RPM ATA
ATI Radeon 9500 Pro
Creative Live! Value
Windows 2000 (SP4)

I can play fine with three tanks, a warthog, two banshees and a few on foot all going at it at the same time. I'll see if I can get some numbers on FPS tonight...

You most certainly wont notice any visual quality degratadation with AA off, simply because Halo doesnt support or 'do' AA

AA is off, i was just throwing that information in there as a comparison to CoD.

I was reading quite a few of the posts in the link that Bigjakkstaffa posted, and there are a lot of people asking about a patch that will address the performance issues, so hopefully we'll see something soon.

Yeah, i'm looking forward to the patch... looks like tomorrow morning based on the link Jakk posted.

I launched fraps tonight (v1.9D) then loaded some Halo CTF action. With everything maxed at 1280x1024 (85Hz/VSYNC) I was averaging about 30-40 FPS on Bloodgulch. I noticed that at times it would drop as low at 27FPS and would peak around ~50FPS. Not bad considering the settings and the hardware used (see my previous post). It was also a pretty face paced game... lots of warthog action and ground battles. I was pleased... hopefully the patch will improve things a bit more.
