I've gone through a number of the posts on here and haven't quite found something that synthesizes a lot of the ideas for someone new to hooking up an ethernet network.

I've got a great taste for wired networking starting out with a Linksys HPNA 2.0 system (Cable/DSL HPNA router, 3 HPNA PCI cards, and 2 USB HPNA modules).

All of my computers have 10/100 already built-in... so can someone recommend a place where I can go to learn about going to a 10/100/1000 ethernet (my HPNA is currently running 10mbps)?

I have a lot of basic questions (e.g., do I need a router attached to a network server for my network, is a print server necessary or can it be done through connecting a coputer, etc. etc.)

thanks all

Start here:
Practically Networked (http://www.practicallynetworked.com/)

It would take ages to start from scratch and explain it all. Start settings things up using the above site, and post some specific questions when you run across them.

Welcome to networking! A very interesting and exciting area of computers!!
