Every time I shut my windows down it will read "Windows Is Shutting Down..." Then it freezes. I just can't figure it out. The message "It's safe to turn pc off now." Is never seen. Can anyone tell me what it is that is wrong, could it be the hard drive? Also since I am using XP is it possible to replace it with 98SE?

What are your hardware specs? What happens when you push the power button on your case?

Setting hardware related issues aside, have you done any tweaking to your system? Maybe you set it to clear the page file on exit or something to that effect? Are you using anti-virus software?

You'll need to be a bit more specific please.

Yes I am using anti virus software. I am using a Pentium II 400Mhz system with a 20 Gig hard drive.
