Hi!
I've just gotten a Toshiba portege laptop which is installed in German. I'm wondering if it is possible to install an english BIOS and reinstall an english version of windows?
The other diff's are the keyboard has umlaut keys for A O & U and that funny double esse character. I don't mind the keys, but my german is pretty bad...
Has anyone ever tried this?

I never thought that the BIOS came in more than one language. That's cool. If you can speak some German then the BIOS should probably be off limits - however, you may be able to flash it with an English version - check the manufacturers web site. I would think that Windows would have to be reinstalled to change the language. No direct experience in that = sorry.

You definetly need to find an english bios flash like PassnThru suggested. Once you do this you can also change the keyboard to english because it sounds like the keyboard is set up in German also.
As for windows you can change the language in your regional settings or you can just reinstall if you want.

I just got a Compaq laptop and there is a language option in the BIOS. There are six or eight different languages to choose from, including German. I think I'll stick with English for now. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif If yours is similar, you may be able to find it and change it to English.
