Hi all,

I need your help in procuring a high-quality monitor equal to the one below but at a significantly cheaper price from the likes of Ebuyer.com or a cheaper retailer.

· DiamondPro 750SB 17" (Ivory), Mfr #: 60000745), (£152.39 Inc. VAT), Mfr: 60000745

My customer needs a machine for, e.g., Word, Excel, copying photos from a scanner and printing, Internet, email and low graphic intensive activities. See nothing too GA demanding.

Could you recommend a high-quality GA from the likes of Ebuyer.com or a cheaper retailer.

I say high-quality because I want it to be reliable and hassle free. I want to keep my good reputation for high-quality products and builds you see ;)

Case & PSU:
· Antec Sx835ii/ws 350w 3x5.25 2x3.5 ATX, Mfr part #: SX835 II UK, (£76.10 inc VAT)

Motherboard etc:
· Abit IS7-E, (£65.55 Inc. VAT)
· Pentium 4 2.4GHz 800FSB SKT478 512kb Cache (Retail Box), Mfr part #: BX80532PG2400D, (£123.37 Inc. VAT)
· Crucial 512MB DDR PC3200, (£64.61 Inc. VAT)

Internal Devices:
· Alps Floppy Disk Drive 1.44MB 3.5 inch internal – OEM (£5.03 inc VAT)

All other pertinent components have been procured.

All the best,
G

What is a GA? Lemme guess. A graphics adapter?

Any GeForce4 MX440 SE would be fine. Failing that, an FX 5200 would be fine. Buy MSI or Asus if you can, but it really doesn't matter. They are all good enough.

Go to the top of the class Billy boy.

Hey Bill save me the grief of looking at card after card trying to discern a difference. Why not pop over to my favourite site Ebuyer.com and pick me what you think is the best card for the price.

I will really appreciate it.

I’m off to bed now. Not had much sleep since building my new machine – 6-9am stints over a 24-hour period.

Hoping to be enlightened by the morning old pale :D

G :)

You forgot the monitor part dude - same request when you have the time :D

Thanks a bunch Bro. That's an idea card - I really appreciate you taking the time to do this.

Now can you do the same for the monitor? The one I mention in my first post may be a bit rich for some, so to keep the cost of a complete system down I need a monitor that I can use for customers as my recommendation. It needs to be of high quality, reliable as the Mis/NEC above but as cheap as possible. Not to cheep that we border on junk though. I need the business and although the components I choose are the best of the best the price is off-putting to some. They would rather buy junk from PCWorld with crappy software, poor service, only a restore CD-ROM and for only £300 cheaper. Go figure. Then when they get it home they say ‘G can you have a look at my computer, it’s not working’ – duh.

I will PM you with some news soon that may interest you.

Thanks mite – off you go now old boy :D

Well, you're best off buying displays locally. If you're not happy with one that's shipped from an etailer, shipping costs back and the "restocking" fee are murder. I would suggest finding the best deal and buying in a shop. If you do some footwork and ask around, you may be able to discover the storefront for Ebuyer, Dabs or Overclockers. That's where I buy monitors. I have two etailers within 15 miles of me.

Gavin, you can't get a Diamond Pro equivalent cheap. It's hard to find an equivalent to it at any price. They are just too good. I would suggest a Samsung.

If the customer moans, remind him that he has champagne taste and a beer budget. ;)

Well Bill I think you might have done it buddy.

The Samsung looks a good model and for the price even better. You’re quite right though, the Misc/NEC are the nuts. I have the Diamondtron Pro 930SB 19” and it is soooo nice – the best actually. The lesser model Diamondtron Plus 93SB 19” is a steal and my recommendation to my customers.

Customers would rather go to PCWorld and buy a lesser computer at £300 cheaper than buy one of mine. Regardless of the meticulous care and attention I pay to details and service. Of course that situation changes for them when they come home with crappy software, a restore disc and their only option from tech support is to do a restore. Great service, not, and all for £300 or so less. Add in the inconvenience, hassles, down time, and the fact it will be out the door (or should that be window<g>) in three years and my option looked better all the time but it’s too late by then. At least I get tech call outs so not so bad in the end <g>

I research to the early hours for these people and I don’t hear from most of them again.

However, this monitor as a substitute to the Misc/NEC and the card you recommended above may help sway the decision in my favour. For gamers I will just continue with the Sapphire 9600 Pro. Non-gamers your choice above.

I hear a song coming ‘ I’m in the money, I’m in the money…’ <g>.

Thanks Bill and I will try and get back to you but your email gives me non-delivered mail errors etc.

All the best to you M8. Have a Merry Christmas & New Year <g>. Couldn’t resist. :D
