hey i have a maxtor 120 gig sata drive that i want to use. Have not decided if i should use it as my primary drive or my secondary drive. I initially wanted to use it as primary. It did not come with any driver disk though, and when i press F6 to install on SCSI when trying to install XP it asks for a driver disk that i dont have. And when im in windows it doesnt see it at all so i cant even format to use for my secondary drive. Does anyone know if im doing something wrong, or where i can download the driver disk for my hard drive? If you know how i can do this with both primary and secondary that would be great to know. My next system will be all SATA if it works out well. Thanks guys.

My System:

asus a7n8x-deluxe
1 gig ddr 3200 (2x512)
athlon xp 3200
geforce ti 4600
sound blaster audigy x-gamer

OH...i am thinking about upgrading my video card..good idea or bad idea? If so, what is the best card to get where i will actually see a difference. Thanks :)

Have almost identical setup except I have the Seagte SATA which I had to download the driver for. Only downloads I see for the Maxtor is Maxblast3.
http://www.maxtor.com/en/support/downloads/maxblast3.htm

or the SCSImax

http://www.maxtor.com/en/support/downloads/scsimax.htm

I don't see one specifically for SATA.

Only other driver I see is for PCI SATA controller

http://www.maxtor.com/en/support/downloads/sata_card_driver.htm

I would expect that this at least has the driver file. This is probably the first download I'd try. If the driver is here then just copy it to floppy and have it ready when windows asks for it.

Windows is not seeing the drive as it's not partitioned nor formatted.

You need a driver for the SATA controller, not the drive itself. Since the controller is integrated onto the mobo, you can get the driver you need from Asus's site:

http://www.asus.com/support/download/item.aspx?ModelName=A7N8X%20Deluxe&Type=Latest

Look under the "Drivers" section.
