Is the BIOS seeing the drive - sounds like you have your drives - what brand HDD - cabled (master, slave, primary, secondary) or jumpered incorrectly - try checking that first and post back.

hi,thanks for that, i swopped over leads and everything,i looked in device manager and it told me off a couple of problems ,which also indicated the yellow indicators on the pci rails, this problem was to deep for me so i reformated again untill windows finalily loaded with the cd rom pressent,i tried the cd player out and it sounded horrible so i put another in its place and a music cd sounsd fine, may be that faulty cd rom was always the problem? anyway thanks and i hope you didnt lose any sleep over my problem.

Maybe your first cdrom drive just packed it in.
Any chance it might've been hotplugged or just on
it's last legs?

Hope you're all set - never a problem for us - except over guys who don't listen to anyone's advice, can't get organized enough to follow the steps needed to isolate a problem, etc.
when that happens we don't lose sleep, it's just time to move on to the next thread :t
