I am getting ready to build a computer this christmas and was wondering if ram might go back up in price. Also do you think that if i baught now the DDR Ram would not be usable in a motherboard that i buy in a few months.

all depends on the mb and if its new or old.

what mb were you interested in getting down the road?

I don't think memory would go up in price at least for couple more months, I think it will actually go down.
And yes, DDR SDRAM you buying now would still be usable in mobo you'll buy in few months. Pick up something good (Crucial, for example), at least PC2100. Also, PC2400 and PC2700 are already out there, but they're still not supported natively by chipsets.

Getting ever closer to building a computer i now have case, powersupply, keyboard, mouse, nic cards, floppy and memory is on the way. Oh and for the mother board i have know idea as it will be a long while like until January.

I can speak from experiance that if you get an Iwill DDR mobo, be prepared to get a hammer to install the RAM, its TIGHT!
When I built my system, I was getting memory errors and it wouldn't boot, so swapped out the memory sticks, tried serveral different configs,(1 stick, 2 sticks, 1 in second slot, 2 in first&second slot, 1 in 3rd, etc, etc)and finally went to an Iwill BBS and read several peoples reply to the memory error prob.
Most said"if you think you have it in good, try again, or push harder"!
Well I did it, almost to the point of hearing the PCB start cracking and whammo! no more boot problems. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
I am not sure if it's an Iwill trait, or it's like that with all of the DDR slots because of the increased pin count of DDR(184 pin vs. 168 for SDRAM).
Also be aware that DDR only has 1 locating slot on the modules, and WILL NOT go into an SDRAM slot, and vice versa.
Just thought I'd throw that out to help if you build an Iwill based box and start having the dreaded 1 short then 2 short beeps on POST when you start it up.

Yo...if you are talking mobos you want the ECS K7S5A. It uses the SiS 735 chipset and it cost $62!!!!! Down side to it is that you cannot overclock to much on this one because the multiplier is locked.
