I have a Mats.h.i.ta (had to seperate since its a bad word) DVD-ROM SR-8583 model DVDrom. However a while back ago it just stopped working. All I can do with it is read DVDs and doesn't read CD-Rs. What could be the issue? I don't understand since it reads DVDs just fine.

Just in case, im sure someone wants to know my system spec's

EPOX 8RDA+
Althon XP 2200+ @ 1.8Gig overclocked 2.0 gig
Geforce3 Ti200
XP Pro
350w Antec PS

And while we are on this topic my CD-RW is having issues recently. TDK 12/10/32. It seems to be giving me coasters lately. Whenever I try to burn any images my burner does its thing for 20-30 seconds and crashes my system. I used Nero and thinkin maybe it was a software issue tried out Alcohol and it does the same thing. However it burns data just fine. ....well not fine. It peroidically gives me coasters. I was wondering what the issue here is.....is it just dyin? I noticed there was a topic pertaining to this excpet that i have already done this and had been working just dandy for a while and then out of the the blue this happened.

Thanks for all the help sysopt members.

Maybe it just needs a good cleaning.

Also, try not over-clocking and see if that has any effect? Good luck! :t

Direct1 is right.....

How old are the cd and dvd drives, and what FSB and/or PCI speeds you running the sytem at when you overclocked it? If you're running at 140 FSB or higher you could be causing problems - if you go too high on the PCI speeds it can cause problems with your peripherals, and even wreck 'em in some cases.

I know - it happened to me with a crummy old Memorex drive years ago, but I RMA'd it and backed my FSB back down on an old PCChips board - no problems after that.
