Alrighty, here is the situation. I have multiple drives containing multiple folders that I'd like to solidify into one folder with the use of junction points. I found an app that will allow me to do this in XP called Junction Link Magic. Now before I go completely overboard doing this I'd like to know what would happen to these junction points in the event of an OS failure. Will the junction points stay intact or will they be removed or what?

Simple shortcuts will not be acceptable.

NTFS Junction Points (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=205524)

Thanks.

I've not had a good experience when XP croaked on me (twice early on) using Restore Points - they "disappeared" (I used FAT32 so could find all my data so it wasn't all that bad....)

You're using NTFS and if XP gets hosed doubt you'll be able to recover those but you'd have bigger problems anyways - use Advanced Restore Options in any event maybe?

here (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/proddocs/ntbackup_adv_restore_options.asp)

or just backup the OS drive to another periodically? Sounds like you have a couple of drives, or partitions, available?

I'm not talking about system restore points. I'm talking about junction points on an NTFS file system. Read the links in my original post please.

I did and spent quite awhile trying to get you info to help - you asked about XP crashing and whether Restore would remember the Junction Points you're planning to set - you need to use Advanced Settings for System Restore to track them.

Read the the M$ Link in my post please - or you're on your own.

Alright, I had my head up my you know what and I apologize. From what I gather without these settings enabled the data that the junction points point to will be accessible. What about if I just forsake the restore operation and simply format the operating system and reinstall?

no problem :t

my guess is you'd lose 'em and have to do 'em again - a full reinstall is not gonna remember setting those junction points
