This may sound like a repeat question, but I didn't find the answer in the stickies.

Here's a quick setup of the network:
Cable modem to a wirelessB router. My PC that needs to share out the internet connection uses a PCI wireless B NIC to connect to the internet through the wireless LAN. Static IP in the 10.0.0.0/24 network on the wireless NIC (static due to hosting certain things).

Router and cable modem are behind the entertainment center where the cable outlet is. This PC is in the office, so nowhere near the ethernet ports on the router.

I have another PC I'm setting up that needs a temporary internet connection to download updates, etc. sitting on the second wing of my desk.

I have a crossover cable between it and the built-in gigabit NIC in my PC. Both adapters are enbaled, and the two computer can see each other.

I want to be able to share the internet connection from this PC to the crossover-cabled adapter.

Using the network bridge, I completely lose connection to the wireless LAN. I'm thinking I just need to set up IP routing manually, but I have never done that on XP and haven't a clue where to go. NT handled this much better.

How can I accomplish this, or do I just need to physically move the new PC into the living room, hook it directly into the router, and skip all this?

I'd like to figure this out as it would make future PC setup situations a hell of a lot easier. I'm thinking this is proving a bit complex because my PC doesn't connect directly to the internet, but rather to a LAN first.

Don't bridge the NICs! Big mistake.

Just run the Networking Wizard on XP and share your connection out through the second NIC.

but I think XP's wizard actually bridges the connection for you. I know it did for mine.

In the end, I dumped the wizard and just selected the "share this connection" option on my internet connection, and selected the LAN connection to my other computer under that.

Sorry I can't post a pic, as I have not much idea how to use these forums, new here.

Happy friggin' Thanksgiving!!!

BPB - the network bridging is, from what I can see, pretty useless for most networking scenarios. If you really need something like that, plunk down the money on a router.

I have yet to run the wizard, and quite honestly have a fear of MS wizards for networking, as I know what I'm doing and hate when automated wizards go and change settings. BUT, I'll give it a shot this time and see what happens. I'll let ya know how it goes.

ngoonee - I hope to hell you're wrong. If it just bridges the connections, I'm going to send Gates a letter.

Ah!! I think I totally misunderstood bridging in XP. I assumed it was the equivalent of IP routing when it's not.

Bridging the gigabit ethernet connection and the IEEE1394 adapter, then separately enabling ICS on the wireless NIC got everything up and running. The wizard actually helped me understand what the hell it was doing!! How very thoughtul of MS!!

I was under the impression that you needed to select the two networks you wanted to connect to each other when you set up the bridge. This is not so however. You need to selec the networks that you want to be able to connect to OTHER network on your PC (the internet connection not included). Once I saw that it all made perfect sense.

Thanks guys.
