Hey I was surfing the net when I found that after XP there going to be another operating system and it was better than XP. Its called Longhorn, then I was at school where my friend was talking about it and he had downloaded it. He said it was fairly stable but wasn't complete.
If anyone can verify this or keep me updated I would appreciate the input.:t

i believe there was an early alpha or beta version of it floating around but as far as i know the actual release has been pushed to 2006 and till then who knows what will happen.

i knew someone who had it running about a year ago. it looked just like xp, the file system wa set up diffrent and new icons.
i know it will ahve some new file system and more security. but i never used it and only checked it out for about 5 minutes, it wasnt stable from what i was told.

Its still in alpha stages. Keep reading about it until you hear about a beta build. Alphas are always too unstable.
Oh yeah....you might find this (http://www.techconnect.ws/modules.php?name=Downloads&op=getit&lid=15) interesting as well.

With the operating system not scheduled out for a couple more years, it FAR too early to speculate intelligently, or come to any conclusions, about it's stability or final version feature-set. Everyone likes to talk like they know, or claim they "know" someone on the inside who tells them all the juicy info, but it's a bunch of BS and the simple fact is that we won't know for a long time.
MS has taken great strides to ensure that each real widespread OS is even more stable than it's predecessor (with ME being an exception--it was more like a public experiment), so I would be willing to bet my life savings that Longhorn will do to XP what XP did to 2000 for the desktop PC market.

it wasnt stable from what i was told.
thats nothing more then a general statment about alphas themself, i wasnt refering to the OS its self. i used xp in beta and its wasnt that stable at times either, but its like a rock atm. i lvoe the OS. please dont take me wrong i didnt mean its gold and thats the final version, just suggesting it may not be worth the hassle if you were wanting to try it. its still pre-beta

There are regularly updated Alpha versions doign the rounds, in fact one version was recently reviewed by a fairly big tech site, however the finished article wont be with us until around 2005 MS reckon

and something i have heard(totoaly speculation) is you may have to pay monthly for it instead of buying the product. thats what happenes when you steal from a company, they then take the privliges away and really "gouge" us...
if thats true i know myslef will be staying with XP.
LIKE I SAID, thats what i heard i have no way of proving that, so NOT quoat me. :)

They'll make even more enemies than they already have. Of course, enterprise license agreement copies will most likely still be the exception, allowing corporations to install at will without registration or payment after a license agreement has been reached.
Those are probably what fuels the unlicensed hoardes of XP installs out there. The hacked copies usually fail at some point.
I'll give it a shot when it comes out. Knowing MS's current outlook, it won't be worse than XP! At least we're still not facing an ME rollout!!!!

Just like any other OS really. Eventually a person will do something stupid enough to crash the most stable of operating systems...myself included.

You don't need to do anything stupid to crash a cracked XP install (most will have a license key beginning with fck**-*****- etc.). Just try to install SP1 or any other major updates. You'll never get them in without a key change.
MS got a bit smarter. And maybe Longhorn will fill some of their security holes with techno-playdough.

No. When Longhorn comes out start using Fedora.

Or, just get an abacus, ad legal pad, and some stamps. You'll be fine for a long time.

If you have to pay monthly to use longhorn, then M$ can consider me a long-lost customer.
