I am in the process of building my 1st pc and am a relative novice at this so...What parts should i buy in OEM version? The prices are sooo tempting but... Any other suggestions would help tremendously!
Thanks

Hi, well...it would help a lot if you could list any knowns at this time...have you picked out a motherboard for instance. Will you be going for an Intel setup or AMD. What kinda price range are you working with?..
Some of these questions answered could go a long way to try to help..

If you are going for oem parts, let me remind you that there's a limited warranty for things! For example, an oem cpu might have 30 to 60 days of warranty while a boxed cpu might have 3 years of covering warranty so be aware!
I suggest that you buy a boxed cpu!
Otherwise most of the other things you can buy oem (like video card, sound card, etc.).

Sorry, I know better. I'm currently thinking:
EPoX 8k7a mobo
AMD 1.33 or 1.4
GeForce 3
Plextor 16x10x40 CDR
SBLive! X-Gamer
Crucial pc2100 Ram (2x256)
IBM 40.0 Gig 60GXP HDD
Floppy Drive
CD-ROM or DVD-ROM
I think that's the meat.
Thanks,
J

I personally would get as much of it as i could oem but if you have the money get retail. The things i personally might consider getting retail are the cpu, mobo, and graphics card anything else get in the cheapest version wether it be oem or retail.
All OEM means is that you miss out on the pretty box and a good waranty and for the proccessor if your going to oc it go oem.

I am currently building a setup very simaller to that well not at this moment just waiting for two things to come out the 1.5ghz athlon and the radeon 8500 video card which sysopt has a preview of. My only suggestions to you are to get a bigger hard drive and look at the new Abit kg7-raid. Also for the price of the x-gamer card i would look at the new game theater xp.
