Someone correct me if I'm wrong but can't that be caused often times because the cpu is overheating? That's just what I've heard if someone wants to back me up or disprove me with some hard facts.

That's just what I've heard if someone wants to back me up or disprove me with some hard facts. moebius 08-16-2001, 01:58 PM That's usually due to insufficient cooling. There are a number of questions you need to ask: Are the computers overclocked? Heat sink installed properly? CPU/Case fans working properly? The environment should also be considered: In the room/rooms where the computers are, is it warm? Are the computers between furniture? Close to a wall? etc. I'm not very familiar with UPS' but don't they also have a feature where they monitor system temperature? You need to consider all these things. In conclusion, IMHO, it's an over-heating problem dyer_maker 08-16-2001, 02:03 PM I would definately have to say that it is an over-heating problem...only other thing I could think of is that you have a trojan or some other virus on your system...but that is a long shot. dyer_maker eweruk 08-16-2001, 02:10 PM Rebooting on its own can also be attributed to: - wake-on LAN - power supply on the brink * - CPU overheating * - viruses - APM settings in bios * most common DanU 08-16-2001, 11:10 PM Windows 9x can sometimes reboot for no apparent reason. I don't think I've ever experienced one on my win2000 computer yet. [This message has been edited by DanU (edited 08-16-2001).] nilknarf 08-17-2001, 12:32 AM I still haven't solved this one. It happens on several totally different computers. The PC will just up and reboot for no reason, even when it's idle. Nothing consistent about it, or the machines, other they are all on a UPS (not the same one though). Any ideas? Tim Cody 08-17-2001, 05:59 AM My Windows 2000 system does it occasionally, but my system (or any of it's parts) never reach over 45 degrees C... (even while on D.nET) KAknight 08-17-2001, 11:26 AM There is a setting in NT and 2k that will automatically reboot instead of showing a BSOD. I not sure if 9x has that option. Worth looking into. crockett 08-17-2001, 01:26 PM after I downloaded service pack 2 for win2k I noticed my machine would reboot on its owen.. most of the time was after it went into sleep mode then I moved the mouse, it would just shut off. I uninstalled service pack 2 and it hasn't done it since... also I couldnt get combat flight sim 2 to work with service pack 2, but after i removed it, it worked great. SysOpt.com
