Hey Yall,
I am looking at removable drive trays to be used for data recovery of customers hard drives. To be used in my computer for hot swapping the drives in and out. Anybody have any input on this subject.
Here is one I have found:http://www.thetrayman.net/item151840.ctlg

You're planning to do IDE hotswap? You sure that thing can do it?
BTW, if anyone can point me toward one for a 15K SCSI drive... :t

68 or 80-pin?

Thanks! I have an 80-pin drive with a 68-pin adapter. I suppose I'd get the 80-pin bay and attach the adapter to it?
Also, is there one with a fan or two?

The back of the bay is the same as the drive. You can still use the adapter.
They all have fans. The Kingwins have two.

Hey Yall,
I got my KF-201-DF Mobile IDE Rack w/ LCD and installed it. It works like a charm. I played with it all night last night. It was cool working with Partition Magic 8.0 and Get Data Back.

So it's truly hot-swappable?? I mean, you can just pop in an IDE drive, slide the case into the rack, and BAM! you have data access???
Hell, for as cheap as that is, and as handy as it surely would have been in the past, I may need to pick one up just out of GP!!
I knew the past almost 5 years here was worth it!! :t

It's not hot-swappable. The PC must be shut down.

Ah! I spoke too soon. What a friggin' waste of time this has been! :D
It would still be worth it for the easy of drive replacement. Although, from the looks of it, I'd still have to unscrew the drive from the rack mount, and screw in another one. All I'd be saving is the time to open the case and connect a drive temporarily. Hmmmm...decisions, decisions.

At the moment I have a removeable IDE rack in one of my drive bays, with a drive in it. All I need is another rack to slide into it, and if each rack has a drive then changing drives is that simple.

Yeah, this is something you want to buy in pairs even if you only intend to use it on one computer.

The only thing I'd ever need it for would be to pull data off of drives that come out of PC's I'm working on. To have to actually unmount the drive and all, then reboot to get it recognized, with the frequency that I have the need for this now (with CD-burners in most newer PC's), it's not even worth the $25 to me.

I would put in a HD and have to reboot for the HD to be recognized. Windows 2000 would install the HD as "New Hardware Found":t

I have been working on retrieving data off of screwed up Hard Drives. It will keep me from having to go inside of my case so much.;)
