Has anyone ever tried to install a Barton 2500+ on a Epox 8k3a+ Motherboard?
I went to Epox site, and it says there that, she doesn't support it, but theoretically, she could, i need only to configure the CPU manually, but will it work, could i waste my MB by trying that?
Some years ago i did something like that with a Abit BE6, the BIOS would only go to P3-850MHz(i think), but i installed a Celeron 1GHz, set the parameters manually and it worked, with no problems.

The multiplier cannot be changed on this motherboard. It cannot work. If it was physically possible, a BIOS update could be made to do it automatically.

The problem isn't the multiplier but the bus speed... That board uses the KT333 chipset which doesn't "officially" support a 166mhz bus speed. The board does have the correct dividers however to keep the AGP/PCI busses at 66/33 when running 166fsb... So you're right, in theory it should be able to run it but its not officially supported.

I have an 8k3a+ running a 2500+ @ 2800+ (highest I could get it to go). Just make sure you have PC2700 memory installed. Set the fsb to 166 and the multiplier to 11. You will not have any problems with it set like this. If you try raising the fsb, the system won't boot. This would set the AGP/PCI higher than 66/33.

And the multiplier will only go to 12. This is how I got it to run as a 2800+

I just had my first experience with a new Applebred Duron. I'm trying and trying to get the full 1400MHz out of it at 100MHz, right? I'm getting really flustered. Nothing about it at the ECS site. The current BIOS says it supports the Applebred, but I can't get it to work!

Finally, I go to the Shuttle web site to get the details on whether it will work on one of their products that I have lying around. I find the CPU table. Lo and behold! The Applebred is a 133MHz chip! ARGH!

It works right on the ECS now. http://www.fancysplace.com/smileys/crazy.gif

Oh well.

Imperium1, did u unlock the multiplier on the CPU or does the Epox 8k3a+, correctly identifies it?

Didn't have to do any physical changes on the cpu. The board just took them.

The 2500+ in my 8k3a+ is AQXDA 0322 (week 22).

And don't try the fsb higher than 166, she just won't boot up then.
