I have a Photomaker 3F flatbed scanner made by Optrox. The interface is via parallel port on a card that is inserted into an ISA slot.In the book that came with it they call it ISA interface.
Now my problem is that I've got a new computer coming,an AMD 1.0 GHZ on a board with no ISA slot, only PCI slots. The scanner works fine , for our (translate that "HER" ) needs and I don't really want to buy a new scanner.
New board has a parallel port,my printer is USB, would it hook up there? The thing is, the scanner is powered thru the card, has no external power cord. It's only connected thru the parallel cable to the card.
Is there a PCI card that would do the job?
Or is it a propriatery thing?
Would the card cost as much or nearly as much as a new USB based scanner?
I tried the company website Optrox.com , no luck no site. Tried a search but didn't come up with anything except people looking for the ISA cards.
Any ideas, experience with this problem anyone?

Are you sure that it is not isa scsi card? Is it and Adaptec card? 1502? If yes, you can pick up a pci scsi card for cheap. Since optrox is out of business, I cannot pull down any info about your scanner.

Well,I don't know if it's an isa scsi card, the book doesn't say it is. How would I tell?
If I remember right it's a kind of a wedge -shaped card.
I'm at work until tommorrow ( I work 24 hr shifts) , I'll pull it out and look at it.
So what you're saying is if it's a scsi , I can get one that's pci with a parallel port on it?

Chances are its a SCSI card, I have an older HP Scanjet 4c that came with an ISA scsi card, and my new Athlon system does not have any ISA slots... I got a PCI SCSI card and it has worked fine with that. You will want to be positive if its SCSI or Parallel before you attempt to plug it in. The pin-outs are totally different, and you could damage something.
