I searched the MSKB for details of what this Update (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2ddf1550-1c5c-44b3-87fc-9c6b37403c35&displaylang=en) includes, but only found a summary! Can anybody tell me if this is another spyware tracker from MS or will it help with my burning?

Cheers! :t

That's it! I'm so scared of MS that I've decided to kill myself! It's no use! We cannot hide! Big Brother Bill ownz us!

Who gives a **** if it is spyware? At least it's fairly well written. It won't slow the PC. You do have System Restore. It can be uninstalled.

Face it - you're small potatoes. No one cares about you, really. Even if you were doing something wrong, there are 500,000 other people doing worse things - most of them in China. :p

Honest Bill, I'm completely legit here (as far as software goes anyway! ).

I just don't want to be contributing to the KB of the machine that is attempting to and will eventually hold the statistics of every person on the planet! add to that the fact that some of my mp3 tracks are of a "personal" nature and have no copyright information embedded! my concern is; that this update may wipe them out of existence without so much as a warning (you may remember last year when I lost over 1000 mp3's to XP's built-in burning feature [once bitten, ...]) after checking for and failing to find a "license"! I like to try to remain in control of my PC, its functionality and its outbound connections!

I don't think I'll bother with it, Nero works for me. I was just looking for a more informed review.

It's too new for a review. You will have to wait awhile.

Did you hit your head today or something?

It's like the IRS sending out a team of high-pay accountants, lawyers and law enforcement types to bag a $1000 tax cheat.

Frankly, I believe MS when they say that they are not planning on using that data for anything but statistics.

I'm not worried that M$ is gunning for me personally, I have no fear of that because I've done no wrong where they are concerened! But I would rather not have my personal details left to the whim of a would-be megalomaniac.

I did a little scratching around and came up with the following:

HighMAT Homepage (http://www.highmat.com/), Developed by Matsusheeta (SP: swear filter being over-efficient) and Microsoft, It claims to be instrumental in cross format digital media management ..i.e allowing the accurate reading of CD's, DVD's, VCD's on many different makes and models of equipment. The Licensing Page (http://www.highmat.com/license/specifications.asp) makes me think it's just another name for Digital Rights Management ..i.e. no license = no access!

Maybe I'm being paranoid :x ...so you'd better check it out for yourselves and draw your own conclusions!
