I lost power to my PC while trying to partition my hard disk with Partition Magic 7.0. As a result my disk is unusable. I have tried using the rescue disks but I get errors when trying to format the drive or perform any other type of action. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks:confused:

Zap it!

http://service.boulder.ibm.com/storage/hddtech/zap.exe

Unzip that file and copy ZAP.COM to a bootable floppy. Boot up with it and type ZAP 0 (zero). Now you can partition and format.

Don't forgat that the drive maker has utilities for this purpose.

Thanks for your help but I tried to Zap the drive as you suggested but when I typed ZAP 0 I got a message that said Zap of Physical Drive 0% complete. When I attempted to try ZAP 1 or 2 I got a whole host of error messages. I only have one drive installed. Since using Partition Magic my drive is not recognised in the BIOS (although it does appear in windows, when I install it in my other PC as a slave it still does not function though.) does this make a difference?

I didn't suggest zapping anything other than zero.

If Zap found a drive, it has to be recognized by BIOS. The BIOS is what Zap refers to for drive data. Go into Standard CMOS setup and see if the BIOS can get a manual detection of the drive.

Listen carefully: Western Digital drives must be jumpered just so if they are alone on a cable. You must either turn the jumper sideways or remove it.

For this reason if you do not have a UPS using PM is risky. Otherwise carry out PM procedures incrementally after conducting a full backup.
