I just installed a new motherboard...I can get it to come up, but for some reason the fan is really slow and the hard drive wont boot up...almost like its low on power...is there a setting I missed..

The switch on the power supply isn't set to 230v... is it?

If your power supply has a thermally controlled fan, then it is normal for it to spin slowly when it's first turned on.

If you have a Digital MultiMeter then you could check the voltages coming from your power supply. If the voltages are way off then the power supply needs to be replaced. If you don't have a DMM then I highly recommend you purchase one. They're indispensible for troubleshooting.

The motherboard is a Asus KN97x, slot 1 pentium 2/266. I just installed it from scratch yesterday. I used my old 200 watt power supply. There is nothing connected but the grafix card. I turn it on I get to the BIOS..If I plug in the Hard drive ...the hard drive just buzzes and the monitor will not even come on .I tried the 115/230 switch...nothing...To me it sounds like the power supply but it worked fine a few months ago...

maybe the PS is too low powered?
Can't remember what a PII requires, but my PIII uses a 250W

AMD usually uses a 300W if I'm not mistaken (please correct me if I'm wrong http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Ok, dunno what the problem was...I put the hard drive on a SCSI ATA/33 controller I had. Works fine now..thats what it was on originally. The fan..still slow..so I cut the leads and attached it to the system board instead of the power supply...works fine..Thanks all for the help..
