Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : hard drive failure on boot up
I have just installed a ultra 66 controller card and now when I boot up I get a message on the very first screen that says 'primary hard disk drive failure' I can hit F1 to continue and eventually it boots but then I go into my system box and I have an exclamatuion next to IDE primary drive but it says the best drivers are loaded ?? any ideas?

Did you disable the IDE controlers on the motherboard before installing the new card?
David

hmmm... how about the new drivers? Did they install ok? Did you remove the previous device drivers from device manager before installing the new drivers? You might try doing that again and then restart windows and let it detect the new card and install the drivers for it again.
I just reread your original post and realized the the error message you are getting probably has nothing to do with the drivers but rather with the mobo/controller configuration. Check your inturupt assignments in the bios for any conflicts with the controller card. I am not familliar with that card, so I won't be much help there, but I'm sure someone else is. Have you checked their web site? maybe some help there.

Let me know what you find.
David
ok I have sorted it out
the card I put in was the abit hot rod ultra 66 controller and it requires its own IRQ which on my bx6 rev 2 is PCI slots 2 and 3
I put it in slot 2 set the boot up sequence to A,SCSI,C and still got the hard drive failure message a couple times then kept re-booting and all of sudden it was ok for some reason guess it needed running in or something ........
the users manual said plug it in and ur set haha yeah right

i just install a new ultra66 in my computer it took me almost 5 hours to figure that i had to disable internal ide controller to make work without crash, and now with my new maxtor 66 hd windows is really really fast.
q. i try to install aol 4 and got a strange blue screen message something about harddisk volume label (i forget what) /forum/frown.gif
are these type of problems (with aol and some games) normal with new ultra66 controllers? are they too new??
