I want to add another computer to my DSL but Bellsouth says I have to order it from them. Can't I get the hardware and do this my self? I have a ethernet modem now, so what else do I need? I do not want to go wireless.

you need a router.

Yep, do what MK says, get one of those nice linksys routers, I have one, and have 5 computers ( have a switch/hub as well for #5 ). It comes with a built in firewall as well, fairly secure for a home system. Almost painless to set up too:t

Not sure, some ISP's get a bit uptight (mine doesn't care ) about having more than one machine per addy, but with the router, they'll never know, it hides what's behind it from the outside, you'll only use one IP addy.

Just as an okay it works.

Im with Bellsouth DSL and ive got a Netgear mr814 wireless router uplinked to a 5 port and an 8 port netgear switch and have as many as 10 rigs on the network at all times, all able to access the internet.

Dont go with the bellsouth option. Ive seen what they charge for the simple stuff.

$150 to install a DSL modem. :x Hate to see what they charge for the network install..

Get a router and any trouble, you have Sysopt. Much better alternative. :D
