My girlfriend just brought me her scanner and has asked me to have a look at it. Its not working.....
I havent looked at it as yet, but would see if you guys have any ideas. Heres the prob: When you scan something everything seems to be going good except for the fact it doesn't light up. Meaning the scanned picture is just black.
Like i said i havent looked at it yet, i will probably try the obvious things e.g. newer drivers from net. But if you guys have any ideas as to what the prob could be that would be great.
It is a Canon N340P. Thanks in advance.

Its parallel (hence th "P" in the model name)

Geeze, I am certainly no scanner guru, but drivers can't fix it if the scan light dosn't work...sounds more like a dead light 'bulb' or whatever the light source is.

Where does the light get its power? from one of those accursed black cubes, or through the parrallel port? Maybe the light is good, the source is bad.

Ok, well i just hooked it up. I've never used one of these b4, it uses LIDE (LED Indirect Exposure) instead of the usual CCD thingo. Basically instead of having a big bright flourescent light it uses LED's to light it up (from my understanding). When i plug in the power, it lights up green, so i am assuming this is what is supposed to happen. Then it switches the light off. When i tried to scan something it lights back up again, but then comes up with an error saying "communications error" or something like that. I am guessing this is a different prob to what my girlfriend was having. I've check that the parallel port is on ECP (and also tried EPP) but same result. HELP!

Just hooked it up to my other computer, its all good now, works 100%. Altho nowhere near as fast as my SCSI scanner http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
I think i may know what was her problem at her place.
