Heyz,
Is there a major difference between the 40 pin hdd cable and the 80 pin hdd cable? (Gotz a 80 gig ATA 100 hdd)
Somehow my 80 pin cable broke  and now I'm stuck on a 40 pin ATA33 )-| cable....
Also, the 40 pin cable doesn't detect both of my hard drives, so I just have to use one hdd now, Is this common?
Alex. :t

get a new 80 pin cable. you'll be glad you did. 40-pin was fine for Ultra33.

The 40-pin cable is probably not compatible with "cable-select". Set your jumpers manually until you replace the cable. As stated, the 40-pin will not allow the drive to operate at peak efficiency.

This is good to know, however, what if you are total loser (me namely) and accidently sent one of your 80 wire IDE ribbon cables back to the manufacturer (oooooops!). I am stuck with a regular 40 wire and one 80 wire. I have 3 drivers, one HDD, a 52 speed MSI CDRW burner and a DVD-ROM Drive. What would be the optimum setup now that i am missing one of the cables? My HDD is a 120 gig WD 8 meg special. I am assuming I should use the 80 wire for the HDD and then use the 40 pin for the two optical drives and replace it later. Thoughts?

I don't think you'd see any advantage using 80pin cables with optical drives. Most are UDMA33, tops, anyway.
