Replaced HD (used) and trying to boot from FD.
I get the three choices
Boot with CD
Boot without CD
Help file

I have tried with and without CD and it goes to a readme text for what new for the startup disk.
I exit from that and it goes to DOS and says to get help, type help, which is where I just came from.
What do I need to type in to get windows to load and start.
And yes, step by step please.
Thanks

You're supposed to pay attention to the letter assigned to the CD drive, go there and type Setup

If the ME floppy is confusing you, use a Win98 floppy.

Please try to stay in one thread. You keep spreading the same topic all over the forums.

P.S. You can't use a floppy to start Windows. You can only use one to install it.

Sorry Bill. I typed setup and all it says is bad command or file name. The only place it mentions a letter is tools were loaded into drive D, and drive E driver is mscd001.
I am not sure which is the letter for the CD but I have tried all of them.

If I use drive a and type setup, it say insert disk in drive b and press key.
If I use drive b and type setup and it says insert disk in drive a and press key.
Otherwise it just says bad command or file name for the other letters.

Boot with floppy

Choose boot with CD

At the prompt , A:\

(type) E: (press enter)
(type) Setup.exe (press enter)

* Windows loads diagnostic tools to a ram drive, usually D: , this pushes the CD drive assigned letter up to the next letter, E: The CD drive needs a Dos driver to work in Dos, hence: drive E driver is mscd001 ;)

Still confused :x

Upon entering set,exe to E drive,it says insert disk for drive a and press key. Both drives have disks in them.

This is exactly what I'm talking about and it makes me very angry. You opened another thread about the same issue and now no one knows which darned OS you're installing.

Listen. Boot with a WIN98 floppy and then type in the drive letter for the CD. Example:

D:

Now type SETUP.

If nothing happens, that means that the hard drives are not detected or the drive is not formatted. In that case, you must run FDISK, create a primary DOS partition and then format it. Until you do, you ain't going nowhere.
