Cannot rip audio Cds [Archive]

I'm running windows xp pro.
Can anyone tell me why I can rip an audio cd with windows media player no problem, but any other player or utility gives me a cd read error.

I have a pioneer dvr 106
and a Liteon Cd-rw

I could be wrong on this, but I remember reading something about XP having a copy-guard feature to stop users from copying commercial cd's and dvd's.
I run either 98se or w2kpro and have no problem duping cd's or dvd's with the various programs I have.(Winmpg DVD ripper, #1 dvd ripper,super dvd ripper etc...)
