Depends on a lot of factors, but according to a study done locally by the electric company and city govt., leaving the ac on @ 5-10 degrees above normal while you are away yeilds best results. This way the AC is not running all day long (unless your normally have it at 65 anyway!), and it does not have too long to catch up when you get home.

I say, keep your place at 50 all the time, that way the ambient temps will keep your CPU in your computer running cooler. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Which is more efficient/reduces cost?

1) Leaving the AC on at 80 F all day so it only has to cool the place down by 5 degrees when I get home in the evening.

2) Shutting the whole thing off, possibly reaching 87-90 F during the day, and having to cool the place all the way down to 75 when I get back.

I guess the real question is, which sucks up more power, maintaining it at 80 F all day or cooling the place down from high 80's at the end of the day.

FYI, 1000 sq feet. Top floor of an apt complex, so it can get hot. Climate is 95-85 F during the day. Humidity is very high so fans are almost useless.

This is a science-type question so I figured it might belong here rather than OT.
