I just posted this reply to someone in this forum.
Thought I would share it with you guys... I want to know if this works in other cities like I think it does. I'm in Rochester, NY btw.

Go to ebay, do a search for "monitor" and then restrict the search to your local area. (advanced search options)
If you live in a city you will see monitors come up and "most likely" you will see someone selling MANY monitors. Every city has companies that buy "off lease" monitors...
EXAMPLE: Company X leases a dozen 21" monitors for 3 years... when the lease is up it is easier for companies like dell (the leasing company) to just sell these off lease monitors for pennies on the dollar to a local "refurb" guy. The refurb guy picks up the monitors, slaps a 3 year warrenty on them and sells them in his shop (and in many cases on ebay) for up to double what he paid for them and it's still a good deal for the buyer.
Anyway - check it out. I just got a Dell p1110 (i think that's the model number) 21" with a 3 yr warrenty for $250 and it's beautiful.
Let me know if you try this and it works in your city.

btw - the place I bought from didnt even charge me tax because I bought the monitor on ebay. (I don't think that's legal but I didnt complain)... Also this place had lower prices for their monitors on ebay then they did in their store - I "had" to buy it on ebay to get the deal. Then I just walked in and picked it up.

I have been wondering about this for quite some time now, and not just for monitors either. I have worked for very large companies and seen some of the stuff that goes off lease either get pitched or not returned. Curious to know what happened to a lot of that after the companies who leased them got them back. Could this possibly work for other things? I tried your search in LA, and it wasn't very helpful. I think I might try the search a little farther north...say San Fran?!?! lol, be right back.

Thanks for the post! :t

Nope, just not happening for me out here in CA. I tried pulling some words out of the search term and restricting the areas to different places. Couldn't come up with anything worth while. Sorry.

I found a TFT screen for a defunct Compaq Armada 3500 notebook-brand new-for only $100!..found it on EBAY..the merchant was 25 miles from my house-BUT---he (as a favor) installed: breaking the bezel and two plastic hinge covers..then..after 3 days..the screen again went all white..i found the female connector on the signal ribbon cable was bad..the merchant refunded my $$ and gave me $25 foir the 'broken" bezel and hinge covers!

oh well--win some/lose some......
