Hi,
I got a Cheetah X15 36LP ST336752LW
Interface:Ultra160 SCSI
Controller:Adaptec
When I log in to WinXP and try to access the HD it start making a sound like it is
being started for the first time - like when I turn on the PC - ,and it freezes for
a moment then do the operation I requested.
This happens evey time I try to use any program or files located on the HD.
Note: I have the same HD on the same system and it is working fine.
Do you have any idea how to fix this.
Thanks.

I do know that there's an option in the SCSI controller setup to keep the drive spinning all of the time. If you disable that, the drive must spin up when you access it. That takes time.

I believe that you can change that setting per drive. If you got this used, who knows how it was configured before? Read the manual.
The drive may be failing too. It's rare, but it does happen.

have you tried removing the card and sticking it in another slot.
changing or checking the cable
try the easy stuff first
The slot may be a shared slot or summat!
Spinup option is usually set on the drive!

SCSI Drives are jumpered to spin up when powered up (with or without delay), or to wait until the SCSI BIOS or driver starts them. Individually, each drive on its own.
