I have a question -- How do I rip a part of a movie from a DVD to my computer? I have tried by myself many times, but to no avail... I need this for my dad's presentation. He wants it by tomorrow or the next day, so please reply as soon as possible! Thanks in advance. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Not sure if you can legally---im REAL sure you can convert and edit to avi or DiVx format the material you need for use, but---
it depends on the nature of the DVD concerning copyrights and all, nowadays we have dvd burners and it may not be an issue if a person personally made it from scratch and told you to "go for it"...

I do not know if ripping DVD to your hdd is legal or not. I know tht DeCSS has had some legal history. If you want to find out info on creating movies and such, you can get everything you like at www.vcdhelp.com (http://www.vcdhelp.com)

OK - you are going to need a sharp knife, a pair of pliers, and a screw driver ... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
I'm sorry. Couldn't help myself...I had to make a bad joke.
this should do the trick

ripping: http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdripping.htm
Converting to VCD or other format (DiVX, AVI etc): http://www.vcdhelp.com/convert.htm
When you rip with the instructions fromt he first link, you should have a format that can be burned to CD in VCD format. This should allow you to play in your computer or on a set-top DVD player if yours supports CD-Rs.
If your current ripped format is already an MPEG, then you can convert it or burn it with how-to's on the second link posted above.
Good luck

Ripping a DVD just gets rid of the encryption and copies it to your hdd, you should now have a collection of VOB files. If you install a DVD player (Power DVD) you can use File Mode to open the VOB files and play them.
If you want to extract a section of the film to an AVI/MPEG you'll need to run it through a compressor (Flask) to get it to AVI or MPEG and then use an editing program such as Premiere to cut the section you want and save that to an AVI/MPEG (you may be able to use Flask to compress just a portion of a VOB file, but I'm not sure having never done it).
Good luck
