while playing Unreal my frames per sec. aren't bad(actually they're better than my friend's voodoo 3) but his graphics seem smoother and there aren't any noticeable pauses or system hiccups. But mine seem to pause ever so slightly when I do 360 degree turns or there's alot of shooting. Should I enable or disable these options:
1.Wait for Vsync
2.Use 5-6-5 graphics modes instead of 5-5-5
3.Use blockwrite
4.mipmapping
I noticed when I increased disk cache size the frames per sec. increased. Do I set a chunksize or do I leave it blank. Or can I dedicate more RAM for video memory. any other tips.

RAM prices are gettin high nowadays...I notice hiccuping with 128! With 196, however, its smooth as silk. Your FPS isnt the problem at all, its the amount of RAM u have.

AuraEdge, what speed processor are you running, when I bumped up to 400 from 350, I noticed much less clipping..... even with the ram I have..

I dunno about the ram part. I have 128mb and I have a 433@488. I sometimes have those hiccups as well. I am not sure why. I have a Diamond V770. Any Ideas?

how do you disable vsync??
I have 256 megs ram and unreal is fine hicups
occasionally if it runs for a long time but I think thats more a product of all the **** iI have running in the background... anyway unreal uses 180 megs of my ram and 150 megs of my swap file so I guess its a memory thing

i found a program at fastgraphics.com for my ati rage pro that lets me diable vsync. Not sure about other cards though. check out the site anyways. I tried it and didn't notice any improvements of FPS. So basically its a mystery as to why there are some pauses on games(I guess whenever computer feels like, huh). But more ram should help and yeah memory prices are high at this time. I wish I was as lucky as Auraedge and maybe I'd find a possessed stick of PC66. yeah right now I've got 6ns ram myself but I can't seem to exceed 112 fsb.

nevermind about the previous post, RAM does make a difference. just borrowed and experimented with some RAM from my neighbor and I did notice less clipping/hiccups. But still not as silky smoooth like auraedge's. Probably when I get a soyo mb(another plug for this company).

Lol..it was WAY smoother with 192 than 128..Makes me wonder how I ever did with 64 RAM. Its pretty smooth in non-unreal games (I never bought that game) But now that my 64 stick is on loan, It chokes up sometimes on halflife or Q3Test. Maybe you need 256 for Unreal to be smooth. I doubt the board has anything to do with 'choppiness', but get the Soyo anyways...GREAT great board. Just wish it had a 1/2 AGP multiplier but i guess well all just hafta wait til camino to get our V770 ultras (make that all of YOUR V770 Ultras... /forum/frown.gif) at high bus speeds.
