Hi everyone, i just brought myself a usb jumpdrive key.
I heard you can make this thing into like a key foryour laptop, where you pull the usb key out, the laptop will lock up. i really need this feature since i use my laptop at school. what kind of software do i need to so this?

I've never heard of that being possible.

Perhaps you should write to Lexar?

It is possiable to do, but not sure that anyone has done it.

All you would have to do is write a program to check to make sure that a certain file is on the USB drive. If it is not shutdown the computer. On Reboot have it check again. As for lockup not to sure how to do that one.

Hmm...this is very interesting.
I can see here, you can lock your data...but It doesn't say anything about being able to "lock" a laptop.

I'd love to be proved wrong...though.
I'd like to have this fearture for some of our field users.
If you find anything else on that...please post it here.

This is possible using a product from http://www.securstar.com/

I think it is DriveCrypt Plus Pack (DCPP) that you need. It isn’t cheap but it is one of the best encryption programs around.

I use DiskCrypt and may get DCPP some time in the future.
