ASRock K7S8X Rev 3.0
Athlon XP2800
512Mb PC333 Major-on-3rd
Samsung 52x32x52 CDRW
Excelstor 80Gb 7200rpm HDD
Sparkle GeForce4 MX440 128Mb Graphics

When I try to install XP pro on the above I get file copy errors, if I swap the Windows Disc for another the offending file will copy but I get another file copy error further down the line. Swapping the disc again will get past this but after the machine reboots I get another error saying that a component could not be installed and the installation has been aborted. I have replaced every component and cable in this machine including:-
Processor, motherboard, RAM, CDRW, HDD, Graphics Card and PSU and nothing makes a difference.
Windows 98SE will install without a problem so I though perhaps my XP discs were getting a bit old, but having tried with a brand new original XP Home CD I got the same problems.
I have just tried installing XP as an upgrade and has similar problems, however, this time after I got the "installation aborted" error I left the machine switched off for a while, rebooted and setup went through OK (after one file-copy error which I resolved by swapping discs again). It is now running fine, but this machine is for a customer so I really need to know what was going on before I despatch it. Any ideas?

I have those same problems when I overclock my system and try to install an OS.

Try resetting the system to normal speed and install. Then overclock after it is set up and running.

The system is not overclocked. It's a newly built system.

Have you tried installing XP from the hard drive? Copy the i386 folder onto the hard drive and try installing that way. If it installs, then you either have a couple of bad cds or a cd drive going bad.

I'll give that a go thanks.
