I just got an email from someone with a familiar email, but not that I recognize off hand.

Subject:stopping the DVD Player 9

Text of email:
Back and forward in DVD discs 9
Displaying time modes 9
Adjusting the DVD audio volume 9
Opening and closing the DVD-ROM drive 9
DVD slow motion playback 9
DVD Menu button 10
Searching DVD discs 10
Selecting viewing angle 10
Selecting DVD audio channels 10
Setting up DVD sub-titles 10
Parental Controls 11
Things You Can’t Do 11
Setting Up Your Display 12
DVD Context Menu 13

Introduction
xe "introduction"Your DVD Player is a full-featured player for DVD Video Discs. DVD provides multiple digital audio tracks and camera angles, parental controls, selectable sub-title languages, menus, and interactive features.
DVD (Digital Versatile Disc) is a high-density format that provides as much as 17 Gigabytes of storage—25 times more than a CD-ROM.

The file attached in question (that I assume is a virus, just wanting to know if anyone else has seen this) is SBLAUNCH.EXE.

Thanx

I couldn't find anything on it:
Encyclopedia

The Symantec AntiVirus Research Center's Online Encyclopedia offers the most up-to-date information on recent threats, detailed in the list below. You may also search the encyclopedia for a comprehensive description of older threats.

http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/vinfodb.html

If you weren't expecting the file to be sent to you, DELETE IT.

SBLaunch sounds like it could have something to do with SoundBlaster...possibly a Creative DVD player, but my searchs turned up nothing except this (http://www.google.com/search?q=sblaunch&hl=en&safe=off) .

Trey, you are right, assume it is a virus and Delete/Delete.

Try
http://www.vmyths.com

for info about, Is this a virus or what?

While you are there, check out the article about "False Authority Syndrome". My guess is that it will describe at least one person you know.

I've seen sblaunch somewhere before. I just don't remember if it was a shortcut icon name or for the older soundblaster AWE cards.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
Have you run a virus scan on it?
Also try right click, properties on it.

Delete it. Your friend can always send it to you again.
