ZoneAlarm is a firewall and you can get it here www.zonelabs.com (http://www.zonelabs.com) (just download the free version. It's about 3Megs in size (I think) which should only take about 10 minutes to download on a 56k modem) I use it myself and it comes highly recommended. It's also really easy to use http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
When you say cache, I assume you mean the internet cache (the files in your Temporary Internet Files folder). This is just all the files from the sites you've been to recently (for faster loading times next time you visit and for offline browsing).

I prefer Sygate Personal Firewall myself, I found it more intuitive and I got the all clear from GRC so it can't be half bad http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
FREE TOO
www.sygate.com (http://www.sygate.com) (NO I don't work there lol, just a preference http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif)

Just a follow on from vass's reply.
Try your firewall at http://grc.com
Use Sheild's Up. Read the disclaimer, etc.
A good [if opinionated] guide to internet security.
There's also a good read here.
The GRC DDoS saga.
The world record speed for an R/C plane is 269.5 Mph. See it at www.amtjets.com (http://www.amtjets.com)

I have run into a similar problem in W2000Pro when running ZoneAlarm. When I've up-dated or installed a couple of programs, ZoneAlarm has become corrupted. The only way to verify is to shut ZoneAlarm down and try it again. (You can get on the net, but can't go anywhere or get e-mail.)
If everything works with ZoneAlarm shut down, un-install ZoneAlarm and restart. That's taken care of my problems so far. I then okay again until I happen to install certain programs or up-date certain programs, the it's shut down ZoneAlarm, verify the problem is corrupted ZoneAlarm files, and re-install.
Hope that helps.

Makes me wonder that ZA is not compatible with a networked environment. I'd suggest that ZA is targeted at the standalone home user.
I'd like to think that your workplace server is running thru a proxy or firewalled.
In which case, let your sys admin deal with security issues.
This wouldn't be the 1st time, I've heard grumbles about ZA.
But then:'The user deems fit, the application'
And I'm sure ZA will be on a crackerz hit list even as we speak.
It works. R.

I use ZA on a small home network (just 3 PC's with a hub - all 98SE) and it works fine... You do need to go into the network setup and tell ZA what the local IP's are either explicitly or by range or by machine name... I couldn't get to my two other machines until I did this...

I have a similar set-up as SickPup404 --
Small home network (4-PC's with a hub - all Win2000Pro) and SickPup hit the key, tell ZA what the local IP's are either explicitly or by range or by machine name
