I went to college with a guy that could easily be considered a "geek". But in a good way. One day in class the topic of discussion became CPU cooling. This kid, to cool his AMD K-6 cpu, turned the comp on its side, removed the heatsink, laid a napkin on top of the cpu, and then sat a glad full of ice cubes on top of the napkin. he said that he had to replace the ice about every 30 minutes or so. I have read many threads and reviews on crazy cooling soultions, but this takes the cake. Anyone got something crazy to add?
Oh, i also read an article on-line about a wild cooling solution. A guy in a wheelchair had his buddy come out and dig like an 8 foot hole in his backyard. Then he hooked up some oxygen tank and some other crazy equipment directly to the computer, to be used as a water cooling setup. This was an extremely elaborate and ghetto set-up. After all the work, the cooling system produced too much condensation and he decided to just use an old radiator from a beer cooler. Thanks pal!

ice cubes and a napkin.....sounds liek a good way to ruin a perfectly good CPU... high maintnence too!

i still get this reaction when explaing to poeple when their fan goes bad and alternate solutions.... "You mean some poeple use water to cool their computers?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Thats crazy!!!!!!"

thats bull**** the minute you use "ice and a napkin" the condensation will destroy the CPU the napkin will get wet and the cpu will absorb it and ruin your cpu

Yeah, that napkin and glass thing was one of those "urban myth" stories floating around a couple of years ago AFAIR.

Actually, the condensation wouldn't immediately fry the K6 CPU as the heatspreader is grounded. But still, stupid idea.

You might get away with running the thing with ice cubes for about 20 secs. After that it would just get really ugly.
