AMD plans to keep socket A alive until 2006, and also plans on extending the Athlon XP line while creating a myriad of hammer versions....

Read it on Overclockers.com - seems to be the bloody dumbest idea ever overall. 4 Hammer lines, and a couple XP lines. Then you have to price them all to match, fat chance in hell of that working, then that isn't even including the Opteron line, so AMD is going to be having btw 6 to 8 lines of CPU's out - that's gonna hurt one way or another.

Will the 90 and 65nm Athlon XP's work with current socket A motherboards? If not, I don't see point in buying one as the computer world shifts to 64-bit hardware.

I sure hope they will work. It'll mean us Socket Aers can at least keep our systems somewhat well-performing and up-to-date until 2006.
