I've been a long time fan of MOHAA and have especially enjoyed its multiplayer features. However I have gotten bored of playing it for the past 2 years, playing the same maps and beating up on everyone.
I just saw some very positive reviews about Call of Duty on gamespot.com and am especially interested in doing multiplayer. However, I don't want to buy anoth MOHAA clone. Has anyone done much multiplayer on this game and how would you compare it to MOHAA. Is it really worth $50 or should I just wait for the next MOHAA (Pacific Theatre)?

Its from members of the original MOHAA team, got it today and played the demos and although ive not doen MP yet, in so far as single player is concerned its similar to MOHAA...just better

Single player is a bit short, but from everything I've read, multiplayer is better than MOH:AA, and it definantly doesn't feel like a clone - there are similarities with some things, but not much. If your mainly a MP person, I'd say get it.

Aye the SP is short, im a couple of missions and ive only been playing three hours or so, which is a bit of a let down :(. Still, the inevitable expansion pack has already been announced.

I've just gotten CoD for my birthday this morning and I can't wait to get home and load it up. I've read many reviews of it and from what I can glean from those, the main draw of this game will be the multiplayer action. I've heard the common complaint that the single player campaings are sort of short and linear but on the plus side the pulse pounding action never stops. I've heard nothing but the highest praise about the sound engine though, so apparently it has bone jarring crashes and booms and leaves you with a kind of "eerie silence" feeling when you stop playing. I've heard others say it is sort of a hibrid between MoH and BF 1942. But one letdown is that where in BF 1942 you could hop into and pilot any vehicle you saw on the battlefield, you cannot do that in CoD. You can drive some tanks and use window mounted machine guns and such, but not to the degree you can in BF 1942. The one aspect of multiplayer I really think sounds like a good idea is the "kill cam" aspect where you can opt to see the last 5 seconds of your life before you were killed from your killers perspective. This should deffinitely keep those snipers / campers from getting too comfortable in one spot (a problem that plagues other games). I also hear that since this game was built on the Quake 3 graphics engine, if you have a modern video card, you should get outstanding framerates for this game (although sometimes the graphics might look a tad dated). Anyway, this is all conjecture from my mouth until i actually try it out tonight but for the most part, all the reviews I've read say it is worthy of a spot on your game shelf.

I've played the demos and think highly of the game. I am sure the MP experience will bring many ggs. Especially after hearing a lot of clans opening up CoD sects or moving altogether to CoD, I think there will be some great MP servers out there with great matches.

This is definetly an great game to have.. MP mode rocks, especially with the Kill Cam (it keeps u on your toes once u kill somebody!) I've enjoyed the Team Deathmatch mode where you don't have to wait until everybody dies to start up again, u can respawn immediately,

The SP maps were pretty short but still quite fun, and the difficulty levels will cause some challenge.

IMO this is a must have game for WWII MP play!! :t

Get it and play it on the veteran mode :x

Currently playing it on that level - basically like hardened, the same couple levels will be a pain in the *** while the rest is fairly easy if you use cover and wait for your teammates instead of just charging ahead. Stuck in the Russian Campaign getting blown away by Panzers as I'm stuck in the apartment level. The American Campaign was fairly easy, not much reloading, the british one was annoying only with the airfield level (can't recall how many times I've quicksaved in that one damned spot your stuck at), and the russian one has been fairly painless until now, which I knew was going to be a major sticking point. I want to just god mode it now - but cheats aren't accepted, and the setrandom isn't accepted either. I'm about to give up on Veteran just because 1. I can't kill 200 people and 5 panzers at the same time, and 2. I can't kill 200 people and 5 panzers at the same time. If I could get past that though, I would most likely be able to beat it. Just have to play it really safe on hardened and veteran. Anything else, it is almost impossible to die due to the amount of health lying around.

I hear that SS, that apartment level is a doozy... Getting in is easy enough, but having to wait for reinforcement with the Panzers and those bastards coming at you from every staircase is a bit tough.. especially since you're the only one who appears to be able to destroy the tanks and hold off the swarm..

The airfield flak gun level was pretty cool, but I hear ya on the quicksave.. Those guys up on the roof were relentless, and the cover was pathetic.. Sweet blowing up them dive bombers though!!

I loved the level where you have to hold that brigde. Reminded me of "Saving Private Ryan" :D

Read on another forum that using the setdevmap command to the map you want will give you cheats for that session from that level on out... I'm tempted to use it, as I just can't beat the level on Veteran, Hardened was tough enough, Veteran is just a bloody pain. Just running btw AT guns is enough to get you killed. There is ONE spot for sure on the whole level that you can LIE prone and you can't get hit, the only problem is that bodies pile up on you higher than you can imagine and with the PPsh you run out of ammo quick as your shooting clear across the length of the hall. Even with the MP40 to help, eventually you get killed since two shots is generally fatal.

Another thing I enjoy is when the Panzers shell you, you become temporarily "dazed" with the distant sounds and the blurry vision.. Very much like "Saving Private Ryan"
