May sound silly, but make sure your volume control is on in software and your desk top speakers.

draboo attempted to install a new video card and something happened and now we have no sound on our computer, help

Make sure The sound card is seated well in it's slot.

It is possible that the sound and video drivers are in conflict (check device manager), but first do what Nick said and check your cards. Also make sure all your power and audio connectors are secure and plugged into the Correct audio jacks.
