The Barton cpu's are the 2500,2600,2700,2800,3000,3200, correct? I just flashed my BIOS so that my board will support the 2500,2800,3000(FSB333). The BIOS readme say that the flash will provide support for the 2500,2800, and 3000 Bartons. But shouldnt it also support the 2600 Barton as well? Just curious about this. And also, can anyone tell me about antialiasing and AF? whatever AF is. my card can do both, but I would like to know what they actually do for the graphics

Anti-aliasing smoothes jagged edges and taxes performance
Anisotroptic filtering makes things in the distance much smoother, more crisp, and clearer
if the bios rev says for 2500 2800 and 3200 than i guess the 2600 might not work because its fairly new and it isnt specifically supported in the bios rev

Will AF hit the FPS pretty hard as well? i am running the Ti4200 OCed way up. i play GTA:VC at 1024x768 on 32 bit color with full draw distance. what can i expect from AA and AF. Will it be able to push 4x on both and maintain a good framerate? also, do you know the diff between 4xAA and Quincunx?

i dont know really it depends on the card you have really, i have a radeon 9800 pro 128mb so i dont really have to worry, i have every game running at 4x AA and 8x-16x Anisotroptic filtering.
you can always try testing it yourself to see if it lags with AA or AF

I believe the 2600 and 2700 have the thunderbird core, not barton. I thought I had seen somewhere that the 2700 later came out with a barton version, but I could not find any verification of that on the net.

You mean the thouroughbred core, the thunderbird was their predecessor to the Tbred core.

The Barton's were originally released only as XP2500, 2800 and 3000 (FSB 333MHz), and there were no Tbreds at those 'ratings'. However, there were / are Tbreds at XP2600 and 2700. Later the XP3200 was released (Barton at 400MHz FSB). Now they appeared to have released Bartons at various ratings (e.g. XP2600). If you have flashed for BIOS support for the XP2500, 2800 and 3000, I would expect any 333MHz FSB Barton to work, because the only difference between them is the multiplier / internal processor speed. There might be an issue regarding whether or not the proper 'name' shows up, but it shouldn't affect the actual functioning of the processor.
BTW, with the current naming scheme, it appears that an XP2600 could now be a 266MHz FSB Tbred, a 333MHz FSB Tbred or a 333MHz FSB Barton. I think AMD needs to revise their processor naming scheme to clarify (perhaps add a suffix of A, B or C etc. to clarify).

The 2600 barton hasnt hit shelfs yet. Its a paper product so far. Only few samples given to Brand name co's like dell last I read. And they are gonna be the primary buyers when it is out. So dont expect US to really see it. It might happen-but prob wont with so many cpu options already and more coming-why care. Go for the 2500+ barton, much better value.:t

I have an Asus A7N8X board with bios update 1007. I have a Barton 2500. Using the bios update, I switched the FSB to 200. Now it runs and shows up as a Barton 3200@400 FSB. And the 2500 only cost $90.00:t

I believe deadkenny hit the nail on the head... The original 2600+ was indeed NOT a barton core, but new ones should be. I don't see why it wouldn't work.
