You could always buy the 100+ hour Morrowind and its expansion pack (as though 100 hours isn't enough). Funny thing is I can't get past the first quest. :p
I remeber the good old days of shareware, when shareware verisons "only" have 30 levels while the full version has 50-100 levels. :D :p

There is some great MMORPG's on the horizon...ok that was cheesy ;) Anyway, I have been beta testing Horizons and it's going to be a great game. You got the standard hack-n-slash but you also have an Ultima Online type of crafting system (best of the best) and what looks to be probably the best community building of any game yet. I won't even mention that you can play a dragon that physically grows as you go up in level and eventually gets the ability to fly. They breathe fire too. It's also the first game that has actual mountains. The amount of vertical terrain is amazing. No other game has accomlished this that I have played.
Just something to think about. :)

just lookin at screenshots.....looks pretty cool, im also wondering how is the soloing and how is the hunting?

I only know that soloing at lower levels is no problem. It's a beta so everything gets wiped from time to time. I haven't made it past around level 20ish because of the wipes but I solo'd the whole way since grouping wasn't even in yet.
As far as price, I really am not sure. I would think it would be around $13/mo since that seems to be the going rate these days for pay-to-plays. I am really psyched about it though and will definitely jump on board when it goes gold.

WOW is taking wayy too long, and im tempted to buy FFXI because to me its the only one worth playing right now, i played a trial version of Dark age of camelot and it was alright.............it took awhile to get up to level 5 and it wasnt even that fun.
hopefully i have better experience with MMORPGS.

Morrowind was the most "recent" of games which had some addictability to it for me. Eventually the interface and horrible combat mode (walk and whap) got to me though. Still the best 50 I spent in quite awhile on a game even though I don't play it anymore.

How is the Horizons beta progressing? My brother was excepted for beta, and I played a little bit at the first stage of beta. Things were pretty bad...no ones legs moved (everyone just slid around)and it was very very choppy and crashed continuously. Im sure most of that has been fixed, but the game was so screwed up it was impossible to get a feel for the game.
I still havent finished Halo, I never play for more than 20minutes at a time, and just finished the Library on Heroic. I also was just accepted for Lords of Everquest beta, and downloaded it yesterday. Only played one quick game, and still have no idea whats going on. Hopefully that will hold me over until Everquest 2. I am confident it will be the best MMORPG out for some time. The first one was groundbreaking, and the second one should offer the same, with better graphics and improvements on the originals major mistakes.

Well that's beta testing for you ;)
It's come along quite a bit from then but still needs a little more work. Most of that stuff has improved though and they have added a ton of content since then.

Im sure it will be a pretty good game, and everything will be fixed, but I still think I will go with EQ2 instead. Playing 2 MMORPG's at once is impossible.

FFXI does not seem to have that much content/dynamics. Of course the web site does not really give a god idea of what is in the game. I am assuming that the game had to be simplified to get it to work on the consule.
I am suprised that Horizons has made it this far with what it has gone through.

You're not kidding chub, this game has been in development since UO was still new. What they have accomplished is exactly what they said they were going to do all those years ago. I am just glad that the time has finally come.

ComPooTer, you might hit GTA Vice City if your into carnage, and vendetas and wish to just destroy everything in your path. I've had it for about 3 months now...maybe 4 and although I beat it a long time ago, it has many side missions, great chases, awesome cars, and there is always something going on in VC.

Years ago (showing my age) when monkey island 2 was released, it kept me entertained for months, eye of the beholder II was the same.
These games came on 5 floppy disks and offered so much more in terms of plot and longevity than ANY current game.
I can usualy finish new ones in a day or so (normal difficulty) and with the new ones costing almost 2 times as much as the old ones I find myself buying less and less games these days.
I've thought about online-type games, but I just can't justify the ongoing cost, especially when you add to that the cost of a fast internet connection or 2nd phone line.

The problem with today's game is 99% of the work goes into the graphics. If they focused on plot and gameplay, and the screenshots wern't quite as sharp, it wouldn't sell. Unfortunately creating a graphicly cutting edge game is so time consuming, the level design and gameplay takes a back seat.
Thats why I enjoy the online games. In a dynamic world, there are an infinate amount of things to do. You aren't stuck in a linear progression, you are free to do what you like. The monthly fees pay for the upgrades and changes that constantly changes the game.

but MMORPGS are a little slow, wouldnt you want to play a long-lasting fast paced game? that would be cool

They are slow at times, but I still enjoy them much more than your standard single player games. I still havent finished Halo, I am on the last level playing at Heroic, but I never play for more than 45 minutes at a time. I get bored fast of the death, respawn, try again type game. I do enjoy playing multiplayer FPS games, which is probably why I haven't finished Halo, because even though the AI is good in single player, playing others is much more interesting. Online games are dynamic and changing, which is what keeps my attention, single player games are fun for a bit, but wear off quickly.

The AI is alright in SP but the marines are stupid, I can be driving a warthog and rather than moving out the way or getting in they jump in front of it.
It's one of the better SP games though it lasts alot longer than games like MOHAA or max payne 2.
What they need is to develop more online games that suit the people who find RPG's boring as hell, an online co-op mode in Halo would have been immensly cool.

Yea the marines are pretty bad, but they are a very minor part of the game. The covenant units are pretty smart, especially near the end. I don't like the flood though, the first half of the game was much better (just finished tonite), just rapid shotgun rounds, instead of strategic fighting. Was a very fun single player game, but I won't play it through again (especially since Legendary is supposed to be insanely hard). I was very close to getting Max Payne 2, until I heard how short it was, and that they force you to play on easy. I find MMORPG's more interesting then FPSers, but I definately see how some people don't like them.
