Hello all, after reading MR ED's questions about his config.sys & autoexec.bat lines, I would like to know what the Soundblaster lines are for? Everything seems to work when I used the windows supplied drivers, But when I upgraded to an AWE 32 and used the cd installtion disk- it loaded several lines in there. Are these for games that run in dos, like Doom? Is Doom faster when clean booted into dos rather than from windows?
Again, sorry for the newbie questions- I just put in new mobos and kept all the old parts, until I get a help desk job the wife keeps a tight lid on puter expenditures...

Hi Rookie ~

That's a good question. Same thing here with the Awe, though I remmed them out and am running nothing in both config.sys and autoexec.bat with Win98.

But, I'm not sure what effect this would have on DOS games...

Anyone?

I have a SB PCI128 and also added a bunch of line on the autoexec.bat, but as long as you don't run MS-DOS mode you should have any problems.

They are only to keep compatibility... but since the new progs use directsound there is almost no use for those lines anymore.

Just put REM before them and if you really need them just make them avaible.
