Could I have some Advice on the following please
I have a Winnt4 print server with 12 printers setup on it. Due to the fact that we are upgrading our Workstations to Xp we need to try to put the Xp drivers on the server so we can print from the Xp workstation but still retain some control over the print ques etc.
I have set up the Xp workstations to print to the IP address of the printers at the moment but alas we loose control over the print ques as they are on the workstations.

Is there a way to do this??

Thanks in advance

what do you mean lose control? do you mean you want to have a login script to automatically configure the printers on the workstations? if so, try con2prt.

I think he means he wants all of th eprint jobs to go through the server so they can delete the ones they want to, and so on.

There should be a spot in the properties of your current printers on the server that says add print drivers. You should be able to add all of the XP drivers there.

Thanks for your replies Guys
Yes r8500 you are right we just want control over the print ques
I cant find an add driver box in the driver properties on the server but just a "new driver" tab that will allow me to install a new driver, this I assume will screw up the driver for the other NT workstations that print to the same printers via the print server.
As I dont feel like 100 users screaming at me Im not game to try this just yet.

Thanks again

winxp has a lot of the older printer drivers already built in, so there would be no need to add specifically xp ones to an NT box. what kind of printer is this?

did you take a look at con2prt at all? you can script which network printers a user will get at logon. I use a different script for each OU. Accounting users get the accounting printer queue by default, etc. As long as they are mapping to the print server, you should have the same control as you used to.
