I use an older 20" Toshiba. I know. Poor poor beeblequix.

Anyway, I'm thinking of upgrading to a newer model. Price matters, so those nice sleek plasma displays are out of the question until they're less than $1000.

Questions:

1) when do broadcasters drop the olde analogue signal entirely and shift totally to HD standard?
2) would anybody in their right mind buy a non-HDTV today? Think of Sony WEGAs -- they have a nice image for ~$1000ish, but not HD.
3) LCD, plasma, CRT, rear projection, front projection....what would be the best bang/buck?

Ideas more than welcome. I'm mostly a computer junkie, but admittedly I've been lacksidasical keeping up on couch potato gear.

The only advice I will offer regardless of what kind you settle on, get one with an S-VIDEO input. My DVD etc. really benefits from the S-VIDEO higher resolution.

Here's what we bought last night. It's an early Jebus present/gratz for the promotion ( :D ). Not a bad price: $500.34 with free delivery. Our new progressive scan DVD player will look nice.

And speaking of looking nice we looked at a similarly equipped and more expensive Samsung HDTV monitor and EDTV Sony's nearby. This Advent looks good. I *HOPE* they're a good company with a quality product.

Looks like an awesome machine....as far as quality, NO machine is any better than the warranty and the people you buy it from. The best known brands may be terrible if the service provider is bad. You bought from a well known, large dealer so you should be O.K.
