this is a new webserver. i want to create a new domain in a new tree in a new forest.
i ran dcpromo. this starts the AD install wizard.
it asks to install DNS. i say ok.
I click all the default choices. at the end it
gives me the error message:
====================
"AD install failed. the network cannot be reached. for information about network troubleshooting, see windoze help."
=====================
well what i was trying to do is start a
new webserver.
when i go to event viewer it says dns started.
dont i need AD for a new webserver?

Web servers do not require Active Directory unless the rest of the network has it. Even then, it can be isolated.

No - you just need IIS.

is the computer connected to a network at all? just connect the system to a switch or something. AD won't install if the network card is disconnected.

You don't need AD unless you are going to be managing a domain. a webserver shouldn't be used as a DC anyways. :rolleyes:
