I'm using W2k with SP4 installed. I was using a tweaking tool and RegClean to get rid of dead weight. Well, apparently some of the "weight" was live, because my Start Menu has been drastically decimated. There no longer are any subfolders in Admin Tools; Accessories has no subfolders. How do I restore my Start Menu? Do I have to manually create a Entertainment and Communications folder, etc.?

Well, unless you created backups with whatever regcleaner you used, and know how to reverse your tweaks then I'd say you start menu is hosed. Start making folders and shortcuts manually, buddy.

This is why you really shouldn't use regcleaners and exactly why you should apply tweaks manually and one at a time.

Just because you flunk a test doesn't mean you have to quit school.
Regclean's been around a long time , and I've never had it give me an issue. But, anytime anyone makes a change to the registry they should take precautions and BACKUP the registry beforehand. Otherwise serious consequences can occurr, as you well know, without recourse.
Now, RegClean has a Undo feature. If at any point you would like to "undo,"
or put back what RegClean removed from your registry, double click the UNDO.REG file.
You'll need to let us know what the other tweaking tool was for us to advise you.

You should be able to use the system restore feature in windows XP, pick a date before you used the RegClean it should restore everything for you. Good Luck:eek:

Maybe I should read the post a little more closely; sometimes we just get stuck on one track. Thank you for pointing that out.

I ended up getting a copy of the Accessory folder from a helpful associate on the 'Net. Then I manually re_created the Management Consoles, which was instructive for me. I found I could make custom Consoles of just the tools I use all the time.:)
