Your limited to PCI, so the 5200 is how you HAVE to go, but 256 megs for PCI... I don't know. A game is known to require it for maximum textures, but only one thus far. The rest of your system would lend to 256 megs of memory on the card, I just don't see the card taking advantage of it. 128 may be better here.

Where can you buy a GeForce FX5200 256mb DDR PCI? I've only seen the 128mb version (like what I have now). Do you have a link for it?

the 5200 range are RUBBISH
So on PCI i should imagine they perform like 10 times as worse
Ti4200 has over half the performance, even on 64MB :) FACT

If you are limited to PCI then thats as high as you can take it, however bear in mind 256mb is definitley overkill given that the card isnt blindingly quick in AGP nevermind the much slower PCI bus. Save soem money and go with the 128mb or if you have an AGP slot try looking at the Radeon 9600 Pro if you can stretch

It is entirely possible that the PCI will benefit more from the 256mb than an AGP card. PCI cards (and bus) is too slow for any sort of transferring textures from the system memory/ hard disk to video card and back. If it had all the memory it needed, then it would eliminate the process. But, PCI cards are really too slow, and their are few games that would actually fill up all 256mb on a video card. Your better off using that money on a 5600 PCI with 128 meg. :t

what about when the pci express hits the market is it going to tear agp a new butthole.

Yes, but not at this given point in time when you consider something like Doom 3 will only need around 90mb of texture memory (at least thats what ive heard) and a game like that will run pretty horribly on PCI i dare say, if it will even run at all
