I thought that the xbox had a GeForce3 GPU in it. If it wasnt the xbox then there is one console out there that does. i believe that it might be a different version of the GeForec3 but basicaly the same chip.

Mr.Goodbytes 08-08-2001, 02:02 PM The GeForce3 is based on the Xbox technology. The advantage the Xbox holds is that it does not have to deal with a "slow" AGP bus to relay graphics to the processor. It has a much faster method, maybe even full processor speed or FSB speed, I can't remember. I'll see if i can find an article on it, but I know that's the main reason the Xbox can beat PC gaming. VERT 08-08-2001, 02:26 PM That is correct, when the X-box is released it will have a faster video card in it than the Geforce 3, it is supposed to be 2 generations ahead of the geforce 3. The reason why the X-box will currently beat a PC in gamming is that it has a different sort of cpu in it that is designed more for graphics, sound and games. [This message has been edited by VERT (edited 08-08-2001).] NDD 08-08-2001, 03:55 PM Can't agree with you, VERT, on few points. First of all, X-Box features NV2A prototype, which is an enchanced version of NV20 (GeForce3), but not two generations ahead of it. Second, X-Box specs, at least for now, list Intel PentiumIII 733 MHz, maybe differently packaged, but it's still "good old" PentiumIII. It will also use RDRAM memory. The motherboard gonna be made by MSI. It won't be a "usual" PC configuration, but what's so special you can already invent ? Donno about the "trick", it's all about "optimization" for 3D gaming, I guess http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Best Regards ... MadMatt 08-08-2001, 05:32 PM Remember, X-box is pushing it's video to a TV with, what, maybe 450 lines of resolution, not to a monitor with 768 or 1200. Run your Geforce 3 at 640x480 and watch those framerates fly. ND is right, X-box is basically a PC... Its because there is a LOT of money to be made with a good console. Sony has pretty much had the console market to itself since they released the original Playstation, and Microsoft wants its piece of the pie as well. Computers need to do a lot of things well, not just play games, consoles are dedicated gaming machines, their whole purpose in life is to play games and to play them well. -Ramon NDC 08-08-2001, 09:54 PM Moved to Gaming Kinmon 08-09-2001, 12:42 AM What's with console systems? I mean, using the x-box as an example, why does it contain a graphic processor that's better than the geforce 3. Like, the image quality, the speed etc. It beats Geforce 3. So, since it's like that, why don't other company make that kind of video cards for PC yet? SysOpt.com
