I rember a for my first PC I did do a 24hr burn in cause a friend wasn't sure wether you still had to or not. But should I do that with my new PC? It really bites having to wait 24hrs to use it, but I'm willing to if it means my PC would work better.

When you do a burn-in, you don't have to be off the computer. When you do the burn-in, you can be on the computer. Personally, I've never done a "burn-in".

I have never done it either.!
I just run some benchmarks looping them to see the motherboard stability etc.!
I often use 3dmark 2000 and 2001 for that as well as Sisoft Sandra.!!

I mostly "burn" it for about 6 to 8 hours and then normal everyday use.!!

Cool! I know old PC's had to be burned in. But I wasn't sure if todays PC's needed it.

On a side note, don't you love that smell new PC's make when you first turn them on! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Does burning in affect system performance?

I don't think you need to burn in a pc other than to check for bad components. I just use them straight out of the box[es] and haven't had any problems.

Burn in is a misnomer. All it really is is a stability check, not some like waiting for glue to cure or something. Just using the computer is fine, or if you really want to make sure you're not going have problems, you can run something like prime95 that uses 100% CPU time and can put about 60MB of info through the ram per second.

IMO, Dputiger has some good comments regarding "burn-in"; starting with the 25th message in this thread (http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum3/HTML/012010.html) .

I've heard that if a hard drive is going to fail, it will do so in the first week or two. Whether this applies to other components is another question.

I would say use the computer and not worry about burning in.

Burning In?

Must, post the photos of the K6, being burnt!

I've only just got back, the shots, of the old box being immolated.

Yep, scan 'em, post 'em.
Onto it, R.
